Looking for a great book to finish the year? Quite a few reading lists have just been released, with literary critics offering suggestions and reviews of what they consider to be the best books of the year. Discover titles and authors you may have missed -- or never even heard of. There are many that are lesser-known, but nonetheless worthwhile choices. Some of these lists are from newspapers available in our print collection or online.
The New York Times Book Review staff has published a list of the 100 Notable Books of 2024, which includes exemplary fiction and nonfiction of the past year. The Times children’s books editor has compiled a selection of The Best Children’s Books of 2024. Click here for complimentary digital access to the New York Times.
New York Post offers its “30 Best Books of 2024” as seen in the feature article “The Year’s Best Books”. Quite a few of their selections overlap with the Times’ list. The Post’s compilation covers adult fiction and nonfiction, “from captivating thrillers and unforgettable memoirs to epic novels”. A book display in the Adult Services Department, which runs from December 20th through January 3rd, features many titles mentioned on this list.
South Huntington Public Library owns most of the books recommended here; search our catalog for availability. Enjoy staying indoors on a cold winter’s day (or night) and warm up with a wonderful read!
