The following community service opportunities are available to SHPL cardholders currently in grades 6-12.  

Community service letters are emailed within 2 weeks after the program. Space may be limited.  

Additional community service opportunities may be available to sign up for at Teen Advisory Board meetings. 

Tea Time: a Community Service Program

Wednesday, January 10

7:00-8:00pm

There’s nothing like a hot drink on a cold winter’s day!  Help us make some tea themed projects to share with our Adult Department. One hour of community service.  Registration begins January 2 at 7pm. 

 

Teen Advisory Board

The Teen Advisory Board (TAB) is an active organization made up of South Huntington teens in grades 6-12 who work together to make a difference in our library.  Tell us your ideas for community service, programs and contests.  Ms. Jen & Ms. Elizabeth will lead this meeting with what the YA Library is already planning for you with our programs and community service. Meetings are usually held on the third Tuesday night of the month at 7pm. Community service hours are provided.  New members are always welcome!  No registration is required.

 

Lil’ Library Pals: a Community Service Program

Wednesday, January 24

7:00-8:00pm

Let’s make this year’s “Take Your Child to the Library Day” extra fun for kids by creating fuzzy little Library Pals for them to adopt! One hour of community service. Registration begins January 12 at 7pm

 

 

Valentine’s for Veterans: a Community Service Program

Saturday, January 27

1:00-3:00pm

Show your appreciation for our military heroes by creating 2 Valentine’s Day cards which will be delivered to veterans at the Northport VA Center and earn a maximum of one hour of community service. No registration required.

 

Creative Writing Project: a Community Service Program

Monday, January 29

6:30-8:00pm

Do you have a story in your head that you need to get out! Join this creative project with a counselor from Project Excel that will guide you in writing a short story or poem that focuses on the positive for our YA library zine and blog.  Have your ideas ready to bring to this program.  1.5 hours of community service for attending and participating in this program.  Registration begins January 19 at 7pm.

 

Decorate Positivity Lunch Bags: a Community Service Program

Saturday, February 10

1:00-3:00pm

Help us by decorating lunch bags with beautiful pictures and positive messages that we will pass on to our patrons. Two lunch bags equals one hour of community service with a maximum of one hour of community service.  No registration required. 

 

Decorate Bookmarks: a Community Service Program

Thursday, February 22

3:00-5:00pm

Help us by coloring a set of bookmarks that we can pass on to our patrons! Color 4 bookmarks featuring our designs (or create 4 of your own) and  cut them out for one hour of community service. A maximum of one hour of community service may be earned. No registration required.
