November Community Service for SHPL cardholders currently in Grades 6-12

Registration is not required for the programs below; however, participants in these passive programs must have SHPL library cards and be currently in grades 6-12. These opportunities are usually available from November 1-30. We will email you a community service certificates within 2 weeks. 

Grateful Pumpkins

November is National Gratitude Month! Share what you are grateful for by printing out the pumpkin template found on November 1st of the calendar, decorating it and bringing it to the library by November 23.  Please note, all projects may be posted on the library's social media accounts. Two pumpkins equals one hour of community service with a  maximum of one hour. 

Please email the below community service activities to youthconnection@shpl.info with the title “COMMUNITY SERVICE” in the subject line. Include the following information to not delay your community service:

  • Your SHPL library barcode ( it starts with 20652…)
  • your first and last name,
  • grade 
  • school 

Monthly Community Service: Animal Adoption and Rescue Tails

All pets are special and add joy to our lives.  You are invited to share your pet adoption and rescue tale.  Email a three paragraph essay (with a minimum of three sentences in each paragraph) describing your experience adopting or rescuing an animal. Each essay equals one hour of community service with a maximum of two hours. Email to youthconnection@shpl.info by November 30. 

Community service opportunities are also available in our monthly and weekly newsletters and on our library program calendar. The majority of these programs require registration with a valid SHPL card in the participant’s name and are available to those in grades 6-12. Questions? Please ask!
