What is the Sketchbook Initiative?
The Sketchbook Initiative is an ongoing community art project that is open to South Huntington patrons of all ages and skill levels. Our mission is to encourage artistic creativity within our library community.
Your completed sketchbook will live permanently on the shelves of the South Huntington Public Library. You can also request to have your sketchbook added to our digital collection for a $10 digitization fee.
How does it work?
- Sign up online. Patrons can sign up on or after July 1st.
- Pick up your sketchbook at the Adult Services Desk.
- Fill your sketchbook with what inspires you. This can be drawings, collages, poetry, doodles, calligraphy, etc. – express yourself!
- Return the sketchbook on or before our suggested due date of September 30th.
- We will create a permanent space on our library shelves for your sketchbook. If you’ve opted to digitize your work, it will be added to our digital collection on New York Heritage.
Can I sign up again if I’ve already participated?
Yes! The Sketchbook Initiative is an ongoing project. Patrons will be eligible to receive a new sketchbook every three months when a new volume is released. We encourage you to sign up for each new volume! (*One sketchbook will be given out per person per Volume. Patrons must return their previous sketchbook in order to receive a new one.)
