Monthly Community Service: Youth Art Month

Earn community service and observe in Youth Art Month as we beautify our online presence through the works made by YOU! March is Youth Art Month, to observe this New York born holiday the South Huntington Public Library is asking for art submissions for our Instagram page and our library website. Limit of one entry per person.  Participants will earn two hours of community service for following the guidelines for their submission. 

Guidelines: Art mediums that will be accepted are: paintings, charcoal, pastels, pencils, graphics, cartoons, photography, and more. Submissions are to be appropriate and demonstrate artistic talent and ability. Stick figures, works drawn on lined paper, and apparent low-effort submissions will NOT be accepted!

All young adult artists will be asked to submit their work with a short description to plevin@shpl.info or youthconnection@shpl.info and provide the following information:

  • first and last name
  • Grade and School
  • A description for the inspiration of your work and what materials you used to create it. At least two sentences are required.
  • Email Address

Once submitted, community service certificates will be emailed by the end of the month using the email address provided.

 

Decorate a Lunch Bag

Help us prepare for Brown Bag It Day in May be decorating lunch bags for community service. Follow the instructions and return with your information for a maximum of two hours of community service. Bags and instructions are available March 1 - 25.  Completed bags must be returned no later than March 31 at 9pm in order to receive community service. Community Service certificates will be emailed by April 8. 

Summer Experience Survey

From March 1 to 31 earn 1 hour of community service by telling us all about what you are looking forward to doing this summer at the library! From programs to raffle prizes and everything in between, make your opinion heard by the Teen Department!  Visit https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1FAIpQLScOWRPq7p5AftGprbrU86pL2UOjfKqOzx2LnAzOscL7qYs_Vg/viewform?usp=sf_link to fill out the form and receive 1 hour of community service. All submissions must be received on/before Thursday, March 31st to receive your certificate. Certificates will be emailed out on/before April 7.  A maximum of 1 hour may be earned for this opportunity for the month of March. 

World Teen Mental Wellness Day

March 2 is World Teen Mental Wellness Day. Earn 1 hour of community service by creating a Google Slide with your best self-care tips to share with other teens!  Click here:

to download a PDF example of how your slide should look. Submissions must be emailed to jgriffing@shpl.info  on/before Thursday, March 31st to receive community service credit. Certificates will be emailed out on/before April 7. A maximum of 2 submissions, for 2 hours of community service, may be earned for this opportunity for the month of March.

Many community service opportunities are also available as online programs. Check our monthly and weekly newsletters and our library program calendar to see what is available.The majority of these programs require registration with a valid SHPL card in the participant’s name and are available to those in grades 6-12.
