January Community Service for SHPL residents currently in Grades 6-12

Monthly Community Service: National Hobby Month

January is National Hobby Month. Between January 1st to 31st, earn 1 hour of community service by creating a Google slide telling us about your favorite hobby and submitting it to ehughes@shpl.info. Not sure what it should look like? Visit our event calendar to download a PDF example of what we are looking for. All emails must be sent on/before Monday, January 31st to receive your certificate. All certificates will be emailed out on/before  February 8. A maximum of 2 hours may be earned for this opportunity for the month of January.

Many community service opportunities are also available as programs that have limited registration. Check our monthly and weekly newsletters and our library program calendar to see what is available. The majority of these programs require registration with a valid SHPL card in the participant’s name and are available to those in grades 6-12. Questions? Please ask!

Teen Advisory Board

The South Huntington Public Library Teen Advisory Board (TAB) is an active volunteer organization that works on behalf of the library's Young Adult community. Membership in the Teen Advisory Board is open to all teens in grades 6-12 and qualifies as community service. Meetings are held in the Young Adult Library on the third Tuesday of the month at 7PM from September through June. Additional opportunities for community service in our library are presented at these meetings. Our next meeting will be Tuesday, January 18, 2022 at 7pm.  While this meeting is being planned as an in-person meeting, please check back a few days before the meeting to see if we have switched to an online meeting due to circumstances beyond our control.
