Vote on Election Day

For those not voting early, Election Day is Tuesday, November 2nd. Vote at your regularly assigned polling place, 6:00am – 9:00pm.

Vote Absentee

You must first apply for an absentee ballot using a paper form (available at our library) or printable downloadable form.  The deadline to mail in (i.e. postmark) the application is October 18th (changed from October 26th via legislative act). (If voting absentee due to COVID-19 pandemic, select “temporary illness” as the reason on the application form.) You also can apply in-person (at Board of Elections headquarters) no later than November 1st.

You must mail in (i.e. postmark) your absentee ballot -OR-you (or someone else) may hand-deliver your absentee ballot to the Board of Elections (at any Suffolk polling place or at BOE’s headquarters at 700 Yaphank Avenue) by 9:00 p.m. on November 2nd.

The mailing address for all forms is: Suffolk County Board of Elections, P.O. Box 700, Yaphank, NY 11980-0700.

Note: If you decide to vote in person either before or after you submit an absentee ballot, your absentee ballot will not be counted. In-person voting always takes priority.

If you do vote in person, you are required to wear a mask/face covering and maintain six feet of distance when entering any Board of Elections facility or voting poll site if you are not fully vaccinated against COVID-19. If your polling place is located in a host site that requires masks/face coverings for everyone regardless of vaccination status (examples: schools, health care facilities), you must comply. These requirements are pursuant to N.Y.S. Department of Health regulations.

POLL WORKERS NEEDED

Did you know that polling inspectors are needed for upcoming elections? These are part-time, per diem positions that provide extra income and offer an opportunity for civic service within your community. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, many longtime poll workers have left their positions and not returned, resulting in a countywide shortage. Inspectors now earn $14 per hour. On Election Day, a shift is 16.5 hours (5:00 a.m. - 9:30 p.m.).

To apply, you must be at least 18 years old, a U.S. citizen and a registered voter. English language fluency is necessary (multi-lingual ability is appreciated). For those who qualify, paid training (a three-hour seminar) is provided for certification as a polling inspector.

Suffolk County Board of Elections is always recruiting - if interested, call 631-854-4527 (Republicans) or 631-854-4536 (Democrats). Open weekdays 9:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.
