From the early colonial days to modern times, the shores and offshore waters of Long Island have often been the stage for fascinating drama. Tragic shipwrecks, heroic rescues, unbelievable courage and fascinating history are all part of the fabric of Long Island. The story of the Pelican, a fishing boat lost off Montauk in 1951, will be a featured story in this program, along with other spellbinding tales of marine rescues and shipwrecks. The program will conclude with an examination of the history of the Life Saving Services here on Long Island.
