The group will discuss "Jane Austen and the Royals." If you think the English Monarchy has changed in the last 200 years, think again. Only the names have changed. Jane Austen lived her entire life under the reign of one king, George III; his family, like the current royals, provided much to criticize. Negative opinions of the monarchy were not suffered lightly; serious consequences could befall an outspoken writer. Austen infused her opinions subtly into her writings. While hard to detect on first reading, once pointed out, her disdain for the royalty of her time becomes apparent.
