European Holiday Markets with The Savvy Sightseer

Call it Marché de Noël, Weihnachtsmarkt, Kertmarkt or plain old Christmas Market, holiday vendors take up residence all over the world during the holiday season. We'll take a tour of some of the best markets in Europe, all centered on the same theme and all dramatically different. Valkenberg in The Netherlands offers a truly unusual atmosphere -- in a labyrinth under castle ruins. Aachen, Germany has Charlemagne's Cathedral as a backdrop. Set up as a village of chalets with a giant Ferris wheel, Liège melds modern and traditional. At Kings Cross in London, mouth-watering artisanal cheeses, meats and baked goods tempt shoppers.
