2022 Trustee Election

Trustee Election: Tues., April 5, 10:00am-9:00pm

South Huntington residents will vote to elect a library trustee on Tuesday, April 5 from 10:00am-9:00pm in the Meeting Room on the lower level.

The 2022-23 operating budget does not change the tax levy, so there will be no budget proposition on the ballot for the third year in row. To see the budget, click the link below.

There is a five-year term available on the library board. Candidates are Eleanora Ferrante, incumbent, and Darshna Katwala. (See candidate info, below.)

Voter Information

To vote on April 5, you must be 18, a U.S. citizen and a resident of the South Huntington School District (#13) for at least 30 days. If you are not registered to vote, you may do so on vote day. Identification proving resi­dency is required.

Elección de los Fideicomisarios: Martes, 5 de abril, 10:00am-9:00pm

Los residentes de South Huntington votarán para elegir a un fideicomisario de la biblioteca el martes 5 de abril de 10 a.m.-9 p.m. en la sala de reuniones en el nivel in­ferior.

El presupuesto operativo 2022-23 no cambia la tasa de impuestos, por lo que no habrá ninguna propuesta de presupuesto en la boleta por tercer año consecutivo.

Hay un término de cinco años disponible en la junta di­rectiva de la biblioteca. Los candidatos son Eleanora Ferrante, actual, y Darshna Katwala.

Para votar el 5 de abril, debe tener 18 años, ser ciu­dadano estadounidense y ser residente del Distrito Es­colar de South Huntington (#13) por lo menos 30 días. Eleanora Ferrante

I’m honored to have served on the Board of Trustees since 2019 and work with the amazing library staff.

We implemented “Grab and Go”, created virtual programs, and increased our investment in digital materials to safely provide library resources to our patrons throughout COVID.  We eliminated late fees and for the past two years presented a budget with a zero increase in the tax levy. 

For 28 years South Huntington has been my home. I volunteer at St. Elizabeth Church, served as South Huntington PTA Council President, and am the owner of Square Peg Square Hole Coaching, a local college/career coaching business.

As the daughter of a librarian, the library has always been a special place for me. I am committed to ensuring that the library remains fiscally responsible while meeting our community’s diverse needs. I hope to have the privilege to continue to serve you as a library trustee.

Me siento honrada de haber servido en la Junta Directiva desde 2019 y de trabajar con el increíble personal de la biblioteca.

Implementamos "Grab and Go", creamos programas virtuales y aumentamos nuestra inversión en materiales digitales para proporcionar de forma segura los recursos de la biblioteca a nuestros usuarios durante todo el COVID.  Eliminamos las tarifas tardías y durante los últimos dos años presentamos un presupuesto con un incremento de cero en la recaudación de impuestos. 

Durante 28 años South Huntington ha sido mi hogar. Yo soy voluntaria en la Iglesia de St. Elizabeth, he servido como Presidente del Consejo de la Asociación de Padres y Maestros de South Huntington, y soy la propietaria de Square Peg Square Hole Coaching, un negocio local de entrenamiento para la universidad/carrera.

Como hija de un bibliotecario, la biblioteca siempre ha sido un lugar especial para mí. Me comprometo a garantizar que la biblioteca siga siendo fiscalmente responsable y a la vez atienda las diversas necesidades de nuestra comunidad. Espero tener el privilegio de seguir sirviéndoles como miembro de la Junta Directiva de la biblioteca.

Darshna Katwala

My deep appreciation for the South Huntington Public Library and serving our community has led me to run for a trustee position. My three daughters grew up in the library, whether it was circle time, mother-daughter book groups or after school art club. Our family has benefitted enormously. Serving on the board would be both rewarding and value added to ensure these opportunities continue for the next generation.

It has been a privilege to bring author visits, offer teen writing workshops and professional development to our library. As a college professor, director of the Long Island Writing Project and coordinator of Women and Gender Studies, I will add my diversified experience in supporting initiatives, creating programs through grants and solidifying new partnerships. I understand the importance of balancing fiscal responsibility while providing programs that are both loved and needed. I ask for your support and commit to continue serving the community.

Mi profundo aprecio por la Biblioteca Pública de South Huntington y por servir a nuestra comunidad me ha llevado a postularme para un puesto de fideicomisario. Mis tres hijas crecieron en la biblioteca, ya sea en la hora del círculo, en los grupos de lectura madre-hija o en el club de arte después de la escuela. Nuestra familia se ha beneficiado enormemente. Formar parte del consejo sería gratificante y aportaría un valor añadido para garantizar que estas oportunidades continúen para la próxima generación.

Ha sido un privilegio traer visitas de autores, ofrecer talleres de escritura para adolescentes y desarrollo profesional a nuestra biblioteca. Como profesora universitaria, directora del Proyecto de Escritura de Long Island y coordinadora de Estudios sobre la Mujer y el Género, añadiré mi experiencia diversificada en el apoyo a iniciativas, la creación de programas mediante donaciones y la consolidación de nuevas colaboraciones. Comprendo la importancia de equilibrar la responsabilidad fiscal y al mismo tiempo ofrecer programas que sean queridos y necesarios. Pido su apoyo y me comprometo a seguir sirviendo a la comunidad.
