Youth Leadership Program

Every young person has the potential to become a good communicator and leader, but this potential needs to be developed. This program's unique eight-session, workshop-style design enables participants to overcome nervousness, organize and present ideas, listen to others' ideas and and constructively participate in group discussions! This program is sponsored by Toastmasters International. Space is limited. Registration begins March 9 for SHPL cardholders and March 16 for all others.

Authors Unlimited provides an opportunity for teens to connect with young adult authors and celebrate reading. Eight authors are scheduled to attend and present dynamic workshops for teens. On Friday, December 7, 2012 at 7pm, the doors opened for the new expanded and renovated Young Adult Library. This new high-tech space is a place for meeting your friends, relaxing with a book, playing games and doing school work. Our collection holds over 4,000 books, including fiction, graphic novels, nonfiction, reference and a variety of magazines.
The library will be staffed 3pm to 9pm Monday through Friday, 11am to 5pm on Saturday and 1pm to 5pm on Sunday and will offer a variety of services to SHPL patrons in grades 6 through 12. Before 3pm during the week, the room will be available for general use and will host programs for the community.
